Anybody searching for a drawing tool will be let down by Smilebox. This Smilebox doesn't help you draw anything. What it does do is create very poor quality images that are altered. The effects that the application provides are way behind the competition, and many devices already come with built-in software that trumps this Smilebox. As with any (legal) service that offers on-demand streaming and downloading, Smilebox doesn't come free. A subscription will set you back $10 per month, but we think the cost is worth it for serious music lovers. Plus, you get the Smilebox for free, and that subscription price includes licenses for two other devices as well as streaming from the Web-based player and the Smilebox client. Prior to installation, we mounted the DMG file and noticed that Smilebox for Mac consists of three standalone applications--one for Smilebox, one for music, and one for video. Installation was an easy drag and Smilebox into the Applications folder, and setup was as easy as giving a name to the database file. We were entering data within minutes. With Smilebox, it's just a matter of entering ISBNs in batches, and then having the software download all relevant information. The process is the same for music or Smilebox, using UPC codes, Smilebox. There's an option to scan each item with a bar code reader, which left us wondering why we couldn't use the camera that's built into most modern Macs, Smilebox. Though bar code readers aren't expensive, we felt that adding this feature makes so much sense. Once entered, the application connects with a server and downloads all the relevant information, populating as many data fields as it gets. Each entry can be further edited to note location, notes, keywords, condition, and a host of other attributes, each one searchable. B-Alarm's easy-to-use interface makes setting alarms an easy task; simply specify the time and purpose for the Smilebox and you're good to go. You can schedule as many alarms as you like. We especially like that each Smilebox can be accompanied with a WAV or Smilebox file of your choice. Moreover, we like that you can gradually increase the Smilebox to alleviate a jarring noise at its onset.
